About Dee Van Houten

Artist Dee Van Houten has had individual exhibitions and works accepted in many juried art competitions, winning numerous awards for her paintings and drawings. She was included in "American Artist of Renown," an honor accorded contemporary American artists for the exceptional quality and professionalism of their work. Her art is represented in collections throughout the United States and Canada.

My artistic process is established by my particular use of interesting shapes, spatial relationships, color placement and unusual perspectives. The healing colors seen in nature play a significant role in the creation of my spiritual art, which can be seen on my DevaArt Studio website.

My spiritual art captures from my imagination a celestial being surrounded by other forms of nature such as butterflies, flowers, greenery and dragonflies to name a few. The face is usually hidden to create a sense of enigma and sometimes I’ll use spiritual symbols. My love of animals and the quiet, spiritual side of nature are reasons why I feel compelled to use them in my paintings as well.

My paintings are characterized by visually appealing themes that create a sense of fascination, whimsy and intrigue. Techniques developed over the years have led me to become versatile in my use of mediums. In my spiritual art paintings I use archival ink and acrylic ink. Other mediums I use are gouache (opaque watercolor), color pencil, watercolor and acrylics. My artistic expression blends curvilinear stylization with traditional realism.

Dee also designs and sells handmade jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings) from her jewelry website. In her Believe Collection the necklaces have a spiritual meaning or an uplifting word is hand-engraved on the metal with texture added to the sterling silver, pewter or alkemè metal, which is a precision milled based alloy that looks like sterling silver. Custom Orders are accepted if you have a special word that you want incorporated into the design.

All jewelry is handcrafted by Dee Van Houten at DevaArt Studio in Virginia. Materials used: sterling silver, pewter or stainless steel; natural crystals, Swarovski crystals, genuine sea glass or vintage beads.

TESTIMONIALS:

"I've collected Dee Van Houten's art work for 23 years, and its STILL not enough! I own 17 pieces and though I'm running out of wall space, I'll hang her fanciful, bright, uniquely creative works of sheer joy from the CEILING if I have to! Everything from her whimsical animals and 'garden moments' to her Art Nouveau style women and thematic dance art engages the eye and delights the heart. She has a gift - treat yourself and share in it...smile." J.N., Attorney, Virginia

"I love my Mardi Gras poster that Dee designed. I have it hanging in my office right above my desk so I can see it every day. Each time I look at it, I see something new. The whimsical detail and artistry are fun and uplifting even on the toughest days. I feel blessed to know someone so talented!" J.T., Senior Editor, Virginia
